Webflow | MCP 2.0 Expands AI Site Building and Governance
Webflow introduced MCP 2.0 on July 21, 2026, expanding how AI agents can design, build, analyze, and manage websites. The update adds deeper support for design systems and CMS content, reusable Agent Instructions, site performance analysis, page branches, activity logs, and granular access controls.
Webflow gives AI agents more context and control over website work
Webflow MCP connects compatible AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Codex, and Cursor to real Webflow sites and Workspaces. A designer can describe a task in natural language while the MCP server translates the request into the API actions needed to work with pages, styles, components, CMS content, assets, and site settings.
MCP 2.0 makes that connection more useful for production work by giving agents broader access to the structure behind a website. The goal is not limited to generating isolated page content: agents can work with established design systems, manage dynamic content, inspect performance information, and operate within the permissions already assigned to the user.
Expanded design tools support structured and reusable website creation
Agents can now use Webflow styles, elements, and components, including component properties, slots, and variants. They can also connect elements and components to CMS data, helping teams create pages that follow an existing visual system instead of producing disconnected layouts that are difficult to maintain.
Font management has also been expanded with tools to register, upload, list, update, and delete custom fonts. Most tasks no longer require the Webflow MCP Bridge App, allowing agents to work across multiple pages or sites without keeping each page open on the visual canvas.
Agent Instructions keep brand and production guidance close to the site
Agent Instructions give teams a central place to store reusable context such as design-system guidance, CMS structure, brand voice, legal requirements, and content rules. Instructions can reference current Webflow resources, including components, variables, pages, assets, CMS items, and locales.
Skills provide detailed guidance for particular workflows, while rules define fixed criteria that should apply to every task. The same instructions can be used by Webflow AI and third-party agents connected through MCP, reducing the need to repeat important project requirements in every prompt.
Analytics and governance bring agents closer to production workflows
Agents can answer questions about traffic trends, top pages, engagement events, time on page, and traffic sources when the site uses the Webflow Analyze add-on. This information can also be shared with other compatible tools in a larger agent workflow for reports, tasks, or team updates.
Enterprise teams gain additional safeguards through page branches and the Site Activity Log. Agents can prepare changes in an isolated branch before merging them, while activity records show when an MCP action occurred, who triggered it, and which part of the site was affected. Existing roles and permissions continue to control access at the site, collection, page, and locale levels.
IMPORTANT: Webflow MCP 2.0 is available on all Site plans, including the free Starter plan, and does not consume Webflow AI credits. Analyze features require the Analyze add-on, while page branches and MCP activity logs are Enterprise capabilities. The Bridge App is still required for snapshots and requests that depend on a selected canvas element. Interactions and animations also cannot currently be created or edited through MCP.{alertWarning}

MCP 2.0 moves AI-assisted website building closer to the structure of a real design project. Agents can work with components, styles, CMS relationships, and project instructions instead of treating every page as a separate prompt-generated layout.
We would still begin with carefully limited access and review every important change before publishing. Reusable rules and skills can improve consistency, but their value depends on whether the project's design system, permissions, and editorial requirements are organized clearly.
For template creators and web teams, the strongest opportunity is a workflow where AI handles structured production tasks while designers retain visual judgment and publishing control. Branches, activity records, and permissions make that collaboration safer, but direct canvas review remains essential before an agent's work reaches a live website.
